Mogadishu, September 17, 2024 โ€“ The Somalia Water for Rural Resilience Project (Barwaaqo), under the Federal Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, organized an induction training workshop today in Mogadishu for line ministries of Hirshabelle State. The session was officially opened by H.E. Mohamud A. Sheikh Farah (Beenebeene), Federal Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development.

The workshop gathered Hirshabelleโ€™s Ministries of Planning, Energy and Water Resources, Livestock, Forest and Range, Agriculture and Irrigation, and Environment. Members of the National Project Coordination Unit, led by Dr. Abdullahi Elmi, and the Hirshabelle Project Coordinator were also in attendance.

The training covered critical elements of the Barwaaqo project, focusing on its objectives, procurement plans, financial management systems, result frameworks, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, safeguard protocols, and communication strategies. World Bank Task Team Leader Raghava Neti joined the session virtually, providing insights and support.

The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, where participants shared reflections and feedback. H.E. Mohamud Abdi Ali, Minister of Planning for Hirshabelle, officially closed the session, emphasizing the projectโ€™s pivotal role in fostering resilience and sustainable development across Hirshabelle.

The Barwaaqo project remains a cornerstone in enhancing water resilience and promoting long-term socio-economic development in Somaliaโ€™s rural regions.
